A Plan for the Year

“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” T.S. Eliot

Welcome to my new blog! I’m very excited to start this new adventure and see where it all leads. I hope you’ll visit often.

One of the goals I set for myself at the beginning of this year was to re-energize and strengthen my commitment to growing my art. With that goal in mind, I’ve decided to start a brand new figure series.

My plan is to complete a minimum of 15 watermedia (watercolor and gouache) paintings that will have a consistent look and theme. My consistent image will be “figures doing something in an everyday environment”, and the theme (the abstract, formal, or technical aspect) that I’m going to be working on in this series is gesture and color.

I plan to post my experiences in creating this new series on my blog – sharing what I’m certain will be the struggles, frustrations, and challenges that will show up along the way. Hopefully, there will be moments of joy, celebration, and growth to share as well.

I invite you to join me on this journey and start a new series of your own. Choose a subject that you love or that you’re really excited to learn something about and commit to exploring that subject. Set a goal of a minimum number of paintings that you’ll complete. Choose your medium, consistent element or idea that will tie all the paintings in the series together, and then set a technical challenge for your series that will make you stretch a little – or even better, one that forces you to stretch a lot!

If you have questions about working in a series, post a comment and I’ll try to answer as many as I can.

Happy Painting!
